Crews from alpine areas are often faced with difficult conditions when responding to and combating emergencies – but even making entry to a building can be a huge task. This month crews from Perisher Valley FRNSW station decided to mix it up a bit and tested their door entry techniques whilst wearing BA – in the snow!
“We try to operate as safely as possible when in snow like that – so anything sharp points down and away from you. All fire exits are required to be kept clear in the area and most stakeholders are good at it, however we could get a foot of snow overnight so we may encounter these sorts of snow slumps when they come off roof tops”.
Wow. You’ve not made an entry before if you haven’t had to dig out a path with your hands!
