James Swan, a 4 year old boy who suffers from a rare neuromuscular disease, won the opportunity to visit Disneyland with his family; however, due to his condition he’s not medically stable enough to fly. As a result, family & friends decided to bring Disneyland to him.
Tawa VFB were contacted and asked if they could bring one of their fire appliances to a “family day” for James as he likes diggers and trucks, instead they brought all three. Thanks to the combined efforts of a whole host of people, they were able to bring a little bit of Disneyland to James!
There was time/effort/material supplied from Morepork Trenching Ltd (an excavator), Enchanted Entertainment (Princesses etc.), Wellington Batman, Wellington Iron-man, Wellington Ant-Man, Wellington Spider-man, numerous other helpers and as I understand it, a banner company made the Disneyland banner for free. (Just waiting to find out who that was.)
We were contacted and asked if we could come with one of our fire appliances (as apparently James likes diggers & trucks) so we ended up bringing all of our stations vehicles.
James has a ‘give a little’ page set up from the Spark Foundation, which can be found here.
Good on you Tawa, and we wish little James the very best of health in the future.
Tawa VFB vehicles in attendance are Tawa331, Tawa3320 and Tawa3326.
I founded Flashover to promote Australian Firefighting. I’ve been a volunteer and a paid firefighter but now I spend my time chasing up leads, promoting good mental health and making the occasional Grumpy Firecom comic!
