Devonport Fire Brigade from Tasmania recently competed in the 2017 Australasian Firefighting Championships in Carterton, New Zealand. Fire Stations from Australia, New Zealand and Fiji competed in the championships and Devonport finished 6th overall, making them the highest placing Australian team in the championship, behind 5 New Zealand teams!

A fire has destroyed a large fish factory and aircraft hanger in Haast, New Zealand. Helicopters with monsoon buckets were called in to assist the local fire station with the fire, which involved putting out other helicopters. The building housed aircraft, fishing machinery and bulk chemical storage which presented multiple issues for the arriving crews.
Across the ditch, Rural and Urban fire services are coming together under one name, Fire and Emergency New Zealand. The new name brings with it a change of roles, responsibilities and powers but on top of that – a new logo!
