A fire has destroyed a large fish factory and aircraft hanger in Haast, New Zealand. Helicopters with monsoon buckets were called in to assist the local fire station with the fire, which involved putting out other helicopters. The building housed aircraft, fishing machinery and bulk chemical storage which presented multiple issues for the arriving crews.
The Kiwis had an interesting working job recently where lightning struck a War Memorial Hall… twice! The incident was upgraded to a 3rd alarm as the crews had to relocate over 300 paintings!
Across the ditch, Rural and Urban fire services are coming together under one name, Fire and Emergency New Zealand. The new name brings with it a change of roles, responsibilities and powers but on top of that – a new logo!
