There were large scale bushfires in Sydney this April with crews from both Fire + Rescue NSW and the NSW Rural Fire service attending – by the hundreds. One NSW RFS crew from Mount Hunter Rural Fire Brigade were working on a sector within the Holsworthy fire and protecting infrastructure when a male Koala came out of the bush, looking shocked and distressed.
Being the kind hearted compassionate firies they were, Firefighters Matt and Amy approached the Koala and provided him with some water before WIRES arrived. We spoke with Matt who said the Koala was happy to get a bit of a drink and support before being taken into care by WIRES and transported away from the fire.
I founded Flashover to promote Australian Firefighting. I’ve been a volunteer and a paid firefighter but now I spend my time chasing up leads, promoting good mental health and making the occasional Grumpy Firecom comic!
