Dean Sewell was on scene for parts of the Sir Ivan fire that decimated parts of the Northern Tablelands in NSW. He gave us these photos which show just how terrifying and ferocious this fire was.

Dean has been a photojournalist for 27 years with most of these shots being taken on his Canon – using a 16-35mm lens, occasionally the 200mm if need be.

I founded Flashover to promote Australian Firefighting. I've been a volunteer and a paid firefighter but now I spend my time chasing up leads, promoting good mental health and making the occasional Grumpy Firecom comic!
