Firies battle house fire as hoses freeze solid

Firies at 475 Uralla, 205 Armidale and Digging RFB were called to a house fire in the early hours of the morning and arrived to find smoke and fire through the roof. The trouble was, it was bloody freezing. Literally.
At 4am, the tanker’s thermometer was reading -8! The water-main in the street had frozen which required council to attend to try and fix it, whilst we ran lines to another water supply further up the hill.
At one point we had a 70mm hose running from the tanker to the pumper which froze solid, along with the couplings on the appliance.
The house was totally destroyed and no persons were injured.
Thanks to 475 for the photos.
