We had a quick chat to the guys over at AFI about their latest prised possession – great work, keep it up!
About Ashendon First Intervention (AFI)
Ashendon First Intervention was formed seven years ago by members with a common background in emergency services and an interest in motor sport. Our founding members recognised that there was an industry demand for skilled fire and rescue personnel in Western Australian motorsport, and sought to fill that void. From that time, a continuing friendship with RallyWA has resulted from their support and endorsement of our operations. For us, the role has now expanded to include a Confederation of Australian Motorsport Sport (CAMS) affiliation and year-to-year involvement at Targa West Events and Powercruise Perth.
We’re very proud to have developed AFI from a group of friends to a professional, volunteer based not-for-profit organisation, consisting of approximately 25 active and administrative members.
Our Newest Edition
At the beginning of this year AFI decided to diversify and improve capabilities with the addition of a dedicated Rescue appliance. While we have always had rescue capability, this was conducted from a Rescue trailer towed by our (Land Rover Defender) Fire appliance. Since acquiring our Rescue appliance, an Isuzu D – Max, we now have greater flexibility to respond to event incidents with incident – specific appliances. In addition to those appliances, we also maintain support vehicles and a communications trailer.
Our Rescue appliance is equipped with Holmatro cutters, spreaders and ram. We also have pedal cutters, a mini combo tool as well as a number of airbags graded up to 40 ton, and vertical rescue equipment.
