399 with a unit block well alight

Flashover: What, where and when!

On 4/2/17 @ 0423 hours, 399 Narrabri was responded to reports of a unit fire. On arrival we found a unit block made up of three units fully involved in fire with exposures on Bravo, Charlie and Delta sides. The exposure on Delta side (neighbouring house) was only 2 metres from the flames, so we immediately deployed a BA crew to protect that exposure whilst another crew began knocking down the fire from the Alpha side.

In addition to the unit block alight, we had 2 vehicles that were totally involved in fire on the Alpha and Bravo side of the structure.

Flashover: What was your combat strategy?

We deployed 3 BA crews with lines of 38mm hose to protect exposures as well as extinguish the fire. The biggest challenge we faced was protecting exposures! The exposures being impacted were:

  • Bravo side (neighbouring shed)
  • Charlie side (granny flat)
  • Delta side (neighbouring house)
  • as well as several LPG gas bottles on the external of the structure.

Flashover: Who was there?

Pump 399, Composite 399, Hazmat 399, Pump 229, NSW Police Force, Ambulance Service of NSW and Essential Energy.
