At approximately 22:00 hours on 24/11/2016, Kyneton and Malmsbury Fire Brigade‘s were responded to a Carbon Dioxide leak at a soft drink factory in Kyneton, Victoria.

Brigades were confronted with 2800kgs of Carbon Dioxide leaking from a 4800kg bulk liquid storage tank and spilling out over the road. After checking the IERG brigades evacuated 250m downwind. With the main hazards being cold exposure and asphyxiation, crews donned Breathing Apparatus along with Structural PPC to investigate further.

Using a Altair 5x gas detector and a Thermal Imaging camera, crews were able to approach the scene and isolate the leak. Temperatures were recorded as low as -50 degree’s Celsius.
