Dunsborough Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade were part of a joint agency response to the Dunsborough Tip for a sleepy 50 mattresses on fire.
The pile of 50+ mattresses was completely ablaze and was spreading into nearby timber. Several brigades including FRS were called out due to the toxic smoke requiring Breathing Apparatus. The tip is *very* close to the National Park which is heavily loaded with old growth fuel. A quick response from everyone meant that the helitacs were not required and we were able to get it under control and then blacked out in under 2 hours.
I founded Flashover to promote Australian Firefighting. I’ve been a volunteer and a paid firefighter but now I spend my time chasing up leads, promoting good mental health and making the occasional Grumpy Firecom comic!
