Phantom Controls have retro fitted an old St Louis truck with their new S.A.M fully automated fire pump, which digitally controls the entire pumping process and can be controlled by a firefighter using a tablet or from a touch screen within the truck itself.

S.A.M is designed to open and close valves, set pressures, select intakes for water and alert the crew if there are problems – it can also set different delivery pressures on multiple hose lines. All of this can be done remotely, so the pump operator can be mobile and not be tethered to the pump. Is this the future of pumping operations?
