Three weeks on from the start of the Port Hills fire Christchurch City Council pays tribute to the men and women who worked to put it out.

The Port Hills fires started on 13/2/2017 as two smaller fires which eventually joined to create one larger fire. It destroyed 9 homes and took the life of a helicopter pilot who crashed during firefighting operations. Thousands of residents were evacuated during the fires.

I founded Flashover to promote Australian Firefighting. I've been a volunteer and a paid firefighter but now I spend my time chasing up leads, promoting good mental health and making the occasional Grumpy Firecom comic!
