Firefighter: Ok Boss, I’ve got this idea for a drill session. We’ll get a bunch of cages and link them together, then set fire to a heap of stuff inside them. Once that’s happening, the guys can run through in full PPE and see if, well, they can make it out the other side?

Blair Dellemijn snapped these photos of a brand new Heavy Pumper for the NT Fire and Rescue Service. They are yet to be marked up and allocated to a station, but they are kitted up and ready to roll.

Throw open the lockers on FRNSW 455’s Pump and HAZMAT tanker. Rutherford run the ‘special roster’ of a full time crew manning the pumper during business hours, then it is manned by retained staff overnight and on weekends. The HAZMAT Tanker is manned by retained staff all year round.
