George Mirage Beotich and Greg from G.E.G Aviation Photography took a trip out to Camden, south west of Sydney, to look at the mighty CH-47D. This firefighting chopper is on loan from California and will be housed at Camden Airport for the current fire season. It carries 7,600 litres of water – which makes it the largest water based firefighting chopper in the country.
A fire has destroyed a large fish factory and aircraft hanger in Haast, New Zealand. Helicopters with monsoon buckets were called in to assist the local fire station with the fire, which involved putting out other helicopters. The building housed aircraft, fishing machinery and bulk chemical storage which presented multiple issues for the arriving crews.
Whoa! Jesse Tonge captured this amazing video of Thor on a mission whilst at the Summer Cloud Bay fire in southern NSW. Have a look at the cross winds she was under!
Hats off to those pilots, they do amazing work.
Flashback to 2016 for a ripping fire in Llandilo NSW, Nathan Simpson got this great video of HT741 filling up multiple times in Jordan Springs. He got seriously close to the action…
Watch as a helicopter conducting firefighting operations in Portugal finishes a refill and strikes power lines on the way back to the fireground. It’s hard to see in the video, but apparently the lines dropped close to the people in the boat.
Firefighters (and civilians!) were staged on a hill top as a mighty Ilyushin Il-76 machine swooped in for a drop. Man, that’s close!
